Macleod embarks on full Swift Sport campaign in 2017

8th March 2017

Kent driver Don Macleod is set for a full season of action in the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship this year, after making his rallycross debut last season as part of selected appearances in the single-make category.

Macleod will compete in all nine of the MSA British Rallycross Championship events, held at Croft Circuit in Yorkshire, his home round at Lydden Hill in Kent, Pembrey in South Wales and Mondello Part in Ireland. Macleod’s Swift will compete under the Donmac Racing banner and will be run by Peter Gwynne Motorsport.

“Naturally, it was a baptism of fire last year, but it was all about learning the circuits I competed at and getting to understand the importance of race craft,” said the Deal-based driver, who raced at Lydden Hill and Croft in 2016. “I had investigated obtaining a car myself and going forward in that manner, but common sense told me that another season under the wing of Peter Gwynne Motorsport would reap its rewards.”

With 2016 Swift Sport champion Nathan Heathcote graduating to Supercar for 2017, the door is open for a new champion in the 1600cc, front-wheel drive category this year. Knowing competition will be strong, Macleod’s early season ambitions are to qualify for the final at events. “I am confident that with the experience gained last year and some progression that better results are on the horizon. Whatever happens I am getting the opportunity to enjoy a sport I love, along with meeting and working with some great people,” he said. “I have been busy scouring my contacts in an effort to find sponsors. Sadly, to date, my efforts have borne no fruit, but I am undeterred and with the help of some good friends we will overcome any issues which get in our way this season.”
