Ovenden Motorsport seizes new objectives for 5 Nations BRX 2024

29th March 2024

Experienced rallycross team Ovenden Motorsport has set new objectives for the 2024 Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy, with Tristan Ovenden continuing his Supercar career and former Junior RX title-contender Will Ovenden stepping up to the Swift Sport category.

Lead driver Tristan Ovenden, a former Swift Sport and multiple Supernational rallycross champion, embarks on his fifth campaign with his ex-Doran Motorsport Citroen DS3 this year.

Having claimed victories in the last two seasons, both at Mondello Park in Ireland, Ovenden enters a fresh campaign following a pre-season test at Lydden Hill on Thursday, with hopes of finding consistent form in a stacked Supercar field and an eye of fighting at the front of the title-race.

Will Ovenden meanwhile took the fight for the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship title to the very last race of the year in 2023, and only missed out on wins count-back. He steps up to the Senior Swift division, the Swift Sport machines more powerful and with more modifications permitted than their Junior counterparts, following in the footsteps of father Tristan, uncle Simon and older brother Tom.

The team also harbours plans to return its Supernational specification Renault Clio V6 to the rallycross scene this year, including with an appearance at the Lydden Legend Festival in July.

Tristan Ovenden:

“We had a good run on the test day and we’re really looking forward to the weekend, hopefully with some good weather. The track looks great, and its always nice to race at Lydden. We’ve done quite a bit of work on the car over the winter, it’s not the newest car on the grid that’s for sure and the competition is going to be tough, but we have been learning this car and how to race a Supercar for a few years now, and we had a good consistent run last year. I think it’s good that there are no dropped scores in the championship, it rewards consistency and we were there or there abouts a lot last year. Obviously racing at Lydden is good for us being so local, but we’ve gone well at Mondello the last couple of years and its nice to go to Pembrey, so let’s see what we can do this season.”

Will Ovenden:

“I’ve been getting a feel for the Senior Swift in the test day, which has been good. I’m really looking forward to the step up, it’s going to be really interesting to see how I get on actually against the other drivers. It’s not too big of a step up from the Junior car – it’s about the perfect amount I’d say, so I think I can go quite well. It’s always nice to start our year at Lydden Hill too.”
