Godfrey in croft

Godfrey takes MSA Rallycross Grand Prix

20th October 2014

On a cool dry day at Croft, it was Julian Godfrey that took victory in the MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix in association with Procter’s Coaches.

Kevin Procter was on pole for the Final in the Ford Fiesta, with Mark Flaherty in the LD Motorsport DS3 alongside and Julian Godfrey on the outside of the front row. Steve Hill in the Mitsubishi and Dave Bellerby in the Lotus Exige made up row two, while Colin Anson in the Ford Ka, Simon Horton in the Subaru and star of the weekend Jack Thorne in the Citroën C2 completed row three. Jef Mertens was on the fourth row.

Hill made the better start and led into the first corner, followed by Godfrey and Flaherty. Procter was once again left on the grid, as the startline issues that tempered his weekend appeared again. Godfrey got past Hill along the back straight and began to stretch his lead over Hill, who was now battling with Flaherty. Bellerby in the Lotus was making sure too, that the leaders did not get too fat ahead.

By lap three Godfrey had a substantial lead over Hill, who in turn had now pulled clear of Flaherty and Bellerby. Lap four saw Flaherty and Bellerby get closer and an ambitious move by Bellerby at the hairpin to get up the inside of the Citroën did not quite work out. Procter meanwhile was proving once again that when he did get the Fiesta going, it was very quick, and the crowd were being treated to an all to familiar display of a very quick car making up places. He was now sixth having made his way past the likes of Thorne, Mertens and Anson.

On the last lap the gap between the top three was sizeable and Godfrey took the flag for a popular win, with Steve Hill second and Mark Flaherty third.Simon Horton brought the Subaru home in fourth with Dave Bellerby fifth.

In the RX150, Marc Scott once again was triumphant with James Grint taking second and an impressive Chrissie Palmer third.

In the Retro Rallycross 82-87 Rob Gibson took his MG Metro 6R4 to win from Gary Dixons Vauxhall Astra. They headed home the BMW of Vince Bristow with Dave Black and the Astra taking fourth.

In the Pre 82 Retro Rallycross Ray Morgan brought his Ford Escort BDA across the line to win from James Harrold in the VW Beetle with Marc Griffin third in the Ford Fiesta.
