Changes adopted to Retro Rallycross regulations for 2026
As the Super Retro and Retro Rallycross Championships within the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy roster continue to grow, a number of changes have been introduced to the regulations for 2026 in an effort to maintain the Retro momentum.
While revised weight limits were introduced for the 2025 season, further changes to the technical and sporting regulations are aimed at keeping the categories true to the history of the discipline.
As such, only ‘technology and materials that existed in rallycross prior to 31st December 1991’ should be used to compete, the new regulations making specific refence to certain performance technologies that are explicitly prohibited. For example; launch systems, electronic or fly-by-wire throttle systems and full-throttle gear change systems are not allowed.
In addition, engine position limitations have been redefined within the new regulations, with a view to stopping new or existing cars being adapted with engines moved significantly to achieve a substantial performance gain. The revised regulations define that for front-engine cars, the front edge of the engine block must be located in front of the centre line of the front axle, with a similar concept adopted for rear-engine-cars.
Within changes to the Sporting Regulations, both the Super Retro and Retro Rallycross Championships will run with a changed format to traditional A, B and C finals, instead of the modern semi-final and final structure, should there be a minimum of 17 competitors available to race after the Intermediate Classification at each round of the championship season.
The draft regulations are now published, and will be made official following approval from Motorsport UK in due course.
