Taylor and Spencer aiming high in British Rallycross

Jake Taylor and Alex Spencer aiming high in British Rallycross

12th March 2015

Jake Taylor and Alex Spencer will this year compete in the MSA British Rallycross Championship in Suzuki Swifts. They are a good example of drivers making their way into Rallycross at a young age. We take a brief look at them....

Jake Taylor

Retford based young driver Jake Taylor has certainly set himself a challenge for the 2015 British Rallycross season following a strong performance in last years MSA Junior Swift Championship.

Jake has now made the step up to the highly competitive Swift Sport class for this season and Jake is under no illusions as to the challenge ahead of him.

Through lots of hard work over the closed season Jake has secured the support of title Sponsor Wallrock for the season. Jake will be driving the same car that Graham Rodemark drove to the championship title in 2013. The car will continue to be prepared by Graham and his company Autopoint , who will also be on hand to offer advice and guidance.

Jake may well unsettle a few established names this year. Infact Current British Champion Tristan Ovenden has already said that Jake will be one to watch this season.

Jake Taylor #03: "The grids will be much larger this year and I'll be up against drivers with more experience than me, but I am getting better with every race. I'll hopefully be pushing for some podium finishes this year.

With the support of Wallrock and a car prepared by Graham and his team at Autopoint I have as good a chance as anyone and it will be down to me prove it. I can't wait to start racing!"

About Jake Taylor Born in Retford in 1997. The 17 year old Nottinghamshire based rallycross driver.

He is the first Rallycross driver to gain a place on the prestigious MSA Academy's AASE course at Loughborough Colllege. The AASE course is aimed for young talent across the UK for up and coming drivers of the future.

He only has one goal and that is to simply drive in the top flight of Rallycross the FIA world Rallycross Championship.

Jake's racing craft shows maturity seldom seem in a driver of his age:

2009 - Started Silverstone Rally School aged 12

2011 - Passed B.A.R.S rally driving licence aged 14

2012 - Entered first official rally in 2012

2013 – two further rallies

2013 - 2nd place Silverstone Junior Rally Championship

2014 – 3rd place Junior Rallycross Championship (rookie year)

Alex Spencer

Surrey hopeful Alex Spencer knows he has a season of hard work ahead of him as he competes in his first full season in the highly competitive Swift Sport Rallycross championship racing against some of the most experienced motorsport drivers in the country.

Alex is very honest about this year's challenges that the team are facing. They are not only looking to remain competitive throughout the year, but also to develop the team and become more consistent as he matures as a driver.

Alex Spencer #96: "I'm looking forward to competing in my first full season and being a part of the swift camp once again, all of the team are ready and raring to go! Who knows you might even see me on the podium once or twice!"

About Alex Spencer - AJS Racing

Alex is 21 and from Sutton in Surrey. He currently lives in Reigate. He is a telecoms engineer.

Alex started in karting from a young age then moved on to racing mountain bikes and BMX.

He has always had an interest in rallycross from a young age as he used to go to Lydden to watch the British rounds.

A chance meeting with British Rallycross driver Liam Doran in 2013 ultimately lead to Alex buying Doran's own prepared Swift rallycross car.
