O'Donovan plans British Rallycross title push at Pembrey

O'Donovan plans British Rallycross title push at Pembrey

17th July 2015

Former British Rallycross Champion Ollie O’Donovan will contest the sixth round of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with the Shannon Group at Pembrey this weekend in his Team RX Racing Ford Fiesta Supercar.

The London-based Irishman dominated the fifth round of the series at Mondello Park, winning both the final and Superfinal. The Pembrey event this weekend will mark the first time O’Donovan has raced his Tony Bardy Motorsport built Ford Fiesta on British soil in the domestic series, having used the car in FIA World and European Championship events prior to Mondello Park.

Yokohama-backed O’Donovan feels that although the MSA British Rallycross Championship title may be a long shot after an under-par opening period of the season for the team, he will continue to push until the end of the final round at Croft in October. “We’ve got to knuckle down and try and win at Pembrey. I think winning the championship is a long way off - we needed to win both rounds at Mondello Park really to get ourselves back in the game, but we didn’t. All we can do is do our best and try and win the remaining British Championship events of the year. We want to get ourselves into second place at least, but of course if something happens to Julian [Godfrey] and Andy [Scott] in the championship I want to be there with a chance of fighting of the title to the end,” he said.

O’Donovan believes that there is yet more pace to be unlocked from the already fast Team RX Racing Fiesta. “It’s improving the whole time, we’re just fine tuning the setup at each event. The next outing after Pembrey will be the Norwegian round of the European Championship in Hell. It’s great for the development of the car that we’re racing in both championships and the level is so high in Europe that it certainly helps up to raise our game in British rounds too,” he concluded.

Also racing under the Team RX Racing banner at Pembrey will be Mitsubishi Evo X driver Steve Hill, who had his best event in recent years at Mondello Park and will be hoping to build on his strong form in South Wales this weekend

Action at Pembrey gets underway at 0900 on Sunday 19th July, while those unable to attend the event can watch the action unfold on livestream.
