Backwards and forwards for Pembrey's BRX double-header

20th April 2016

The third and fourth rounds of the MSA British Rallycross Championship in association with ODYSSEY Battery will take place on two circuits, at one venue.

Pembrey Circuit – operated by the British Automobile Racing Club – is a regular on the British RX calendar and hosts the double-header weekend in just over a weeks time (May 1 – 2), which will feature a new layout. Held on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday, the first of the two rounds will be run in the reverse (anti-clockwise) direction of the usual layout, following a raft of changes to the circuit, led by manager Phil Davies. The initiative is aimed at giving competitors more variety of competition and better value for money at the two separate rounds.

“Running the track in different directions is a great innovation for British rallycross and creates new interest and value to competitors taking part in the double-header at Pembrey,” said Championship Manager, Tim Whittington. “It’s a fabulous initiative from Pembrey that will present drivers with new challenges, I specially looking forward to seeing Honda Curve as the left-hand first corner.”

Several rallycross drivers tested the new layout recently, including Supernational competitor, Mike Howlin. “I like it, the opposite direction is quite fast and it will make it interesting to race on. Phil (Davies) has done a really good job getting all the work done,” said the Welshman.

“We have done a lot of work to the circuit to meet the MSA’s requirements for running the opposite direction, I’ve been discussing with them for about six months,” said Davies. “I think the new version is almost better, it feels really nice. The new circuit is quite quick, so the Supercars will be really exciting on it. We’ve done everything that’s got to be done. Hopefully we should have a really cracking weekend, especially with having Dai Llewellin racing too.”
