As the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy joined arguably the biggest rallycross event in the world at Loheac in France [August 28-30], reigning 5 Nations BRX champion Derek Tohill extended his advantage at the head of the 2026 standings.

Tohill entered the event with dual focus as alongside his 5 Nations BRX commitments the Irishman is also contesting the French Rallycross Championship in 2026.

With 5 Nations BRX and French RX competitors racing together in the event, Tohill was consistently top of the 5 Nations BRX runners throughout the weekend, setting a best time of P2 in the qualifying stages, in Q2. Only in Q3 did he get bettered, as Murray Motorsport driver John McCluskey went fastest of the 5 Nations BRX runners with his Honda Civic Coupe RX.

While Tohill, McCluskey and Tristan Ovenden (Volkswagen Polo) all progressed to the event’s semi-finals, six-time British Champion Julian Godfrey didn’t make the cut, the Citroen DS3 driver losing out with a broken propshaft in Q3 and an engine issue in Q4.

As Tohill graduated to the final to finish fourth overall and claim top 5 Nations BRX honours, Ovenden finished second by virtue of a better semi-final result, McCluskey forced out by a turbo boost issue, but still completed the podium in third.

Competing in the FIA European Rallycross Championship element of the Loheac weekend, with a total of 53 Supercars across the British, French and European series, former 5 Nations BRX Champions Ollie (2007) and Patrick (2022-2024) O’Donovan both made the semi-final stages of the event as part of their European programme this year.
