Champions tied on top as 5 Nations BRX heads to Wales and Pembrey Circuit

22nd July 2025

Former champions Patrick O’Donovan and Derek Tohill sit tied on points at the head of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy table as the series heads to Pembrey Circuit, South Wales this weekend (July 26-27).

Three-time 5 Nations BRX title-winner O’Donovan won twice in the opening rounds of the campaign at Lydden Hill on Easter Bank Holiday weekend, driving Team RX Racing’s Proton Iriz RX. Meanwhile, Tohill’s PFCRX squad made a late switch of car from it’s long-serving Ford Fiesta to a Peugeot 208 in the lead up to the season opener, and by the second double-header of the campaign, the 2021 champion was in the flow, and took maximum points in both rounds to join O’Donovan at the top of the table.

The pair head to Pembrey race-sharp, Tohill having joined technical partners DA Racing in rounds of the French Rallycross Championship, while reigning European Rallycross Champion O’Donovan has contested the opening three rounds of the World Rallycross Championship and travels direct to Pembrey from the latest round in Hungary with his own Peugeot 208 Supercar.

Joining O’Donovan in the Team RX Racing line-up, 2007 British Champion Ollie O’Donovan returns to the series having missed the Mondello event at the wheel of the event-winning Proton Iriz.

Notable in the headline Supercar category for 2025 is the new-look Teams’ Championship, and while it’s the O’Donovan pair that head the standings, JGE Team Goody Rallycross team mates Tristan Ovenden (Citroen DS3) and Julian Godfrey (Citroen DS3) lie just six points behind, with MMS RX Team IRL pairing John McCluskey (Ford Fiesta) and Gary Donoghue (Ford Fiesta) just three points further back.

Third in the drivers standings, McCluskey finished on the podium at his home event last time out while Godfrey also made a rostrum appearance in the Mondello Park weekend. Kent driver Ovenden and New York-based Donoghue meanwhile head to Pembrey seeking their first podiums of the season.

Driving a event-winning car run by himself and his wife on events, Colin Anson (Mitsubishi Mirage) also makes the trip to Pembrey with eyes on a strong result.

In the single-make Suzuki Swift Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship, pre-season favourites as the highest returning drivers from 2024, Cayden Harris and Teddie Macpherson sit tied at the top of the pile. Harris won the opening three rounds of the campaign, shadowed by Macpherson, but as Macpherson claimed a maiden victory on day two at Mondello Park, a sixth-place result for Harris drew the pair level. Tommy Brown lies third in the standing just two points ahead of Harris Folley, who in turn is four points ahead of another newcomer, William Hands. Kenyan 14-year-old Cheche Ababu makes his debut in the category this weekend.

Max Weatherly (LifeLive TN11) heads the new for 2025 is the Motorsport UK-sanctioned Cross Car Championship with four wins from the opening six rounds, as the series runs within both 5 Nations BRX and BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship events. It was Weatherly who claimed the win last time out at Blyton Park, but in the round before that at Mondello Park, Junior graduate Benjamin Bartlett claimed his maiden win in a Mygale XC04 machine, the same make of car with which former British Rally Champion Osian Pryce claimed the honours in the opening round of the season at Blyton. Bartlett sits third in the points, while reigning Swift Sport Rallycross Champion is third. Supercar racer Max Langmaid (LifeLive TN5) races in the division this weekend, his BMW Mini Supercar forced onto the sidelines with part supply issues. Stephen Jones heads the RX150 Rallycross Championship order, racing together with Cross Car in 2025.

In the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship, Matt Cake is undefeated so far in 2025, with four wins to his credit despite an engine scare over the Mondello Park weekend. Samuel Petersen sits second and is in the battle for a Supercar Lites prize test, while Philip Seath and Kenyan Naftali Ayieko return to the series this weekend.

The rich history of the discipline is celebrated by the Retro Rallycross Championship, the series having only contested the opening double-header of the campaign at Lydden Hill as the Mondello Park weekend clashed with the Loheac Legend Festival. Having taken back-to-back Lydden victories, Alan Crockett (Opel Kadett) heads the Super Retro order, shadowed by reining title-winner Charlie French (Ford Escort), while Stuart Emery (Volvo 242) and Vincent Bristow (BMW E36) have both finished on the podium so far this year, and are third and fourth in the standings. The Retro Rallycross category for up to 1600cc machines is headed by reigning champion Dan Swayland (Ford Escort), who claimed victory in round two, but it was Terry Moore (Austin Mini) who won the season-opener and it is newcomer Joe Luke-Eastwood who lies second in the points, with Rob Buckmaster (Ford Fiesta) third.

The Pembrey double-header is run as a joint event with the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship this weekend. Reigning overall champion Alex Fletcher leads the overall order thanks to a pair of wins so far in his Production-specification Honda Civic, while Kieran Curran (Vauxhall Corsa) leads the Super Modified standings, Wesley Wickens is top of the single-make BMW Mini order and Tom Edmunds (Vauxhall Corsa) leads the Classic category. Hayden Harris (Suzuki Swift) meanwhile is top of the BTRDA Junior standings.

Both rounds will be broadcast live and free via livestream on the 5 Nations BRX YouTube Channel and Facebook page. Follow the championship social media channels for links and broadcast times.
