Tom Constantine

Constantine cousins set for Junior RX challenge

3rd March 2017

Reigning MSA Junior Rallycross vice-champion Tom Constantine will return to the Championship this season with a fully rebuilt Suzuki Swift to challenge for the coveted title. He will also be joined in the Junior RX series at MSA British Rallycross Championship events by his cousin, James Constantine.

Tom Constantine finished second overall in the Championship last season, after a year-long battle with Champion Sam Jones, who has since graduated to the MSA Supernational category. Yorkshire-based Constantine won the opening round of the campaign at Croft last year, his local circuit, and is hoping for more of the same at round one of the 2017 season in two weeks’ time.

"We had a great year last year with lots of good, clean racing with Sam and the rest of the boys. We did struggle a bit to meet the minimum weight limit with me being 6’ 5” tall, and weighing around 95kg, so we had to try and take weight out the car where we could to compete with the other guys,” said Constantine. "The championship this year is looking fantastic. I think it will be the best Junior championship yet with drivers like Ole Henry Steinsholt coming over from Norway to compete. Everyone will be fighting hard to win the Championship this year, I think it will be a great spectacle. I would like to thank everybody at Victoria Garage in Richmond who have worked so hard over the winter to make sure I have the best car possible for this year.”

James Constantine, 14, will make his rallycross debut at the first round of Junior RX at Croft and is hoping to learn and progress during his first year in the sport. “I don't have any racing experience. We did a test at Blyton recently I learnt a lot with the car and I felt like I was getting quicker and quicker through the day,” said the young driver, who will race the car that carried Sam Jones to the title in 2016. “It will be good having Tom racing with me as he will give me some good advice. My hopes are to be more competitive as the year goes on and try to get a podium finish.”
