Crockett and French share Mondello Super Retro spoils

6th October 2025

Reigning Super Retro Rallycross Champion Charlie French entered the sixth round of the 2025 campaign on the back of three straight wins at Pembrey and Lydden Hill, and continued his run of form by claiming victory after a series of close battles with title-rival Alan Crockett at Mondello Park [October 4-5].

But in round seven on Sunday, it was Crockett who overcame a number of issues during qualifying to climb back to the front row of the grid for the final, make the best start to storm into the lead and take his third win of the campaign.

Ford Escort driver French three times set the fastest time in the Saturday qualifying heats, in mixed wet and slippery conditions, on each occasion fending off a valiant challenge from Opel Kadett racer Crockett, the same scenario playing out in the all-important final as French took the win. While Crockett finished second, rallycross stalwart Allan Tapscott (Ford Escort) claimed his second podium of the season in third. Vince Bristow (BMW E36) finished fourth, ahead of Pat Doran (Ford Escort) and Stuart Emery (Volvo 242).

On Sunday it was four-time British Rallycross Champion Pat Doran (Ford Escort) who leapt out of the blocks first with an opening heat session win, before French went fastest in Q2 and Q3. Meanwhile, Crockett suffered windscreen washer problems in the opening encounter, then had a spin in Q2 meant he had to fight back in Q3, where he set the second-best time to secure a front-row grid slot for the final.

While Crockett fended off substantial pressure from French during the final, the pair ultimately having a drag race to the finish line with Crockett taking the victory, Doran finished third, ahead of Tapscott, Bristow and David Ewin (Ford Fiesta).

French leads the standings by seven points ahead of the final double-header of the campaign at Lydden Hill next month [November 8-9].
