Swift Champion Cake set for Supercar debut in 5 Nations BRX season-opener
Reigning Swift Sport Rallycross Champion Matt Cake will graduate to the highest level of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy when he makes his Supercar debut this weekend at Lydden Hill (April 5-6).
Older brother to Junior racer Phoebe, Cake delivered a record-breaking campaign in 2025, winning every round of the Swift Sport season to wrap up the title.
The 26-year-old started his career in Junior Autograss, before progressing to Senior Autograss competition, Micra Stockcars and most recently the Swift Sport series in rallycross.
With lead Ovenden Motorsport driver Tristan Ovenden having switched to a Volkswagen Polo for 2026, in an 11th hour deal for the Lydden Hill double-header Cake will race the Kent squad’s Citroen DS3, driven by Ovenden to a pair of 5 Nations BRX victories since 2020, and multiple podiums.
Cake will join established names like John McCluskey, Steve Hill, Julian Godfrey and others when he lines up on the grid at Lydden Hill this weekend for the circuit’s traditional Easter Bank Holiday event.

“This has come together quite late and I still can’t believe that I’m going to race a Supercar at my home circuit. Excited is an understatement. I’m going into the weekend with zero expectations with the hope of performing well. After being around rallycross for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to race a Supercar and even more so after winning the 2025 Swift Sport Championship. To be lucky enough to race a Supercar around Lydden will be like nothing else. I’m sitting down to study what onboard videos from various competitors I can and take as much information in as possible. I’m lucky to have a few fast friends around me and I can’t wait for the weekend.”
As the British Rallycross Championship celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026, the headline 5 Nations BRX category runs over nine rounds with events at Lydden Hill, Mondello Park (Ireland), Loheac (France) and Pembrey Circuit (Wales), the campaign concluding with the annual fireworks weekend back at Lydden Hill.
