5 Nations BRX titles to be decided at packed Lydden Hill fireworks finale
Former Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy title-winners Derek Tohill and Patrick O’Donovan enter the final rounds of the campaign at the Lydden Hill finale this weekend locked in battle for the 2025 crown [November 8-9], with a huge crowd expected for the annual fireworks event.
All but one of the nine championship rounds held so far has been claimed by either Tohill or O’Donovan, and it’s 2021 champion Tohill who holds the advantage at the head of the standings by a 20-point margin from triple and reigning title-winner O’Donovan, who was forced to miss the last event at Mondello Park due to clashing commitments.
With 20 points on offer for a win on each day, and a strong field of known and un-known quantities in the headline Supercar division for the season-finale, much can still happen in the title race.
Both drivers race Peugeot 208 WRX machines, Tohill having made his debut in his DA Racing car at the opening weekend of the campaign during the traditional Lydden Hill Easter Bank Holiday Monday event, while O’Donovan’s car was used by his father Ollie to win at Mondello Park last time out.
The pair are also joined by new team mates for the final encounter of the year, DA Racing driver Andrea Dubourg – a multiple European Rallycross Championship podium-finisher and the winner of the French Rallycross Championship event at Loheac in August – makes only his second start of the season having enjoyed his visit to the Lydden Hill opener while working behind the scenes.
With regular Team RX Racing driver Ollie O’Donovan missing the event due to clashing commitments, former RX150 Rallycross race-winner Sam Clennell, responsible for the preparation of the squad’s Supercar machines, makes his top-flight debut in the outfit’s unique Proton Iriz RX.
Six-time champion Julian Godfrey (Citroen DS3) is third in the standings and with John McCluskey (Ford Fiesta) and Ollie O’Donovan unable to compete this weekend, Godfrey holds a strong hand for finishing in the overall top three when the count is stopped on Sunday afternoon, although the renowned engineer will need to keep one eye on JGE Team Goody Rallycross team-mate Tristan Ovenden (Citroen DS3), the pair also still in mathematical hunt for the Teams’ Championship title, the points currently led by Team RX Racing.
Colin Anson (Mitsubishi Mirage), Mike Sellar (Volkswagen Polo) and Steve Harris (Mini EV) all make their returns to the series this weekend, while George Tracey has entered his first competitive Supercar event since 2009 with a Citroen C4 and Dutchman Tom van den Heuvel (Volkswagen Polo) embarks on his 5 Nations BRX debut to conclude his first rallycross Supercar campaign.
Just three points separate Teddie Macpherson and Cayden Harris at the head of the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship table, Macpherson winning last time out at Valkenswaard in August to edge ahead in the points. Meanwhile Tommy Brown, Harrison Folley and William Hands are locked in battle to finish in the overall top-three, the trio having all visited the podium in 2025 and looking for a strong final weekend of the campaign in the single-make category for identical Suzuki Swifts.
Max Weatherley leads the first-ever Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship standings heading into the final weekend of the campaign, the 11th and 12th rounds for the single-seater machines. Weatherley (Lifelive TN11) has won five times so far in 2025, while David Kane (Speedcar Wonder) has been the form driver of late, winning the last three events at Pembrey, Lydden Hill and Knockhill, to climb to third in the points. While Weatherley has a 22-point advantage at the head of the order, just 10 points separate the battle for second and third, including Kane, Junior rallycross graduates Will Ovenden (Mygale XC04) and Ben Bartlett (Mygale XC04), Liam McMullan (Speedcar Wonder) and Bradley Turner (LifeLive TN11). Roan Lundy (LifeLive TN11) makes his debut in the series this weekend. Stephen Jones and Ben Hardy join the single-seater grids in their RX150 Rallycross machines.
For the first time ever, young drivers will compete in Motorsport UK Junior Cross Car Championshipraces this weekend, with familiar faces Pheobe Cake, Cayden Harris and newcomer George Edenborough set to do battle.
Lydden Hill local Matt Cake is on target to secure the Swift Sport Rallycross Championship title and with it the prize drive of testing a four-wheel-drive Supercar Lites machine in the off-season, but the single-make category will feature intensely close racing throughout the final weekend of the campaign. While Cake has dominated Swift proceedings in 2025, Samuel Petersen, Philip Seath and Naftali Ayieko have all featured on the podium this year and will be hoping for more of the same this weekend, while Tyler Scott makes his rallycross debut in his father Darren Scott’s machine. Dave Halford, best known for driving his Group B Audi Quattro in Legends events, also joins the series.
Reigning Super Retro Rallycross Champion Charlie French (Ford Escort) leads the standings heading into the final weekend, but it has been a nip-and-tuck battle all season long at the head of the order between French and Opel Kadett racer Alan Crockett, the latter having won twice on the opening weekend of the campaign and is still right in the title fight. Only three points separate Vincent Bristow (BMW 318i), Allan Tapscott (Ford Escort) and Pat Doran (Ford Escort) in the battle for third overall, while in the biggest field of any of the classes in the 5 Nations BRX roster, a number of new faces join the fold. Hannah Stewart, daughter of long-time Retro Rallycross racer Barry Stewart will debut in a Talbot Sunbeam, while Daryl Ambrose will race a Peugeot 106.
In the Retro Rallycross Championship category for up to 1600cc machines, Dan Swayland (Ford Escort) has all but secured the defence of his crown having dominated through 2025, but a strong field for the Lydden weekend will make in a rich battle for the podium, Ian Biagi (Mini Clubman) notably returning for another of his selected rounds, while Joe-Luke Eastwood (Rover Metro) is back having sustained an event-ending roll in the 2WD Superprix event at Lydden Hill back in September.
All of the action will be broadcast live on the 5 Nations BRX YouTube channel and Facebook page, while tickets to attend the event can be found here.
