All to play for as 5 Nations BRX 2WD runners head to Lydden Hill

4th September 2025

The ‘home of rallycross’ Lydden Hill will host a bumper day of two-wheel-drive rallycross action this weekend, as contenders from both the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy roster and the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship will battle for supremacy [September 6].

Leading the charge into the second joint 5 Nations BRX and BTRDA event of the season, Max Weatherly [Lifelive TN11] heads the Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship standings, having claimed five wins from eight rounds so far, notably twice claiming victory at Lydden Hill on Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

Weatherly hasn’t had things all his own way however, as Junior Rallycross graduates Benjamin Bartlett [XC04] and Will Ovenden [XC04] sit second and third in the standings of the 19 drivers to score points so far this season, and both know Lydden Hill well.

David Kane [Speedcar Wonder] is the other of the Lydden Hill entrants to have claimed an outright Cross Car win in 2025, and is embroiled in a battle in the championship standings with Liam McMullan [Speedcar Wonder] and Bradley Turner [LifeLive TN11].

But, in addition to the regular racers this weekend, former Supercar race-winner and 2025 RallyX series Supercar Lites winner Roberts Vitols [LifeLive TN11] will make his return to a 5 Nations BRX event, while BMW Mini circuit racer James Black [LifeLive TN5] will make his rallycross debut this weekend, as part of a 17-strong field.

In the Super Retro Rallycross Championship, Alan Crockett [Opel Kadett] and reigning title-winner Charlie French [Ford Escort] lie tied at the top of the 2025 standings, chased by a four-way battle for third comprising of Vincent Bristow [BMW E36], Allan Tapscott [Ford Escort], Stuart Emery [Volvo 242] and Pat Doran [Ford Escort], the quartet separated by just 10 points. Former Supercar racer Andy Grant [Ford Escort] also returns for more with his recently rebuilt car as part of a packed 15-car line-up.

In the Retro Rallycross division for up to 1600cc machines, reigning title-winner Dan Swayland [Ford Escort] leads the way, but will face stiff opposition in a seven-car field, notably including newcomers Peter Christmas [Toyota Corolla] and Paul Quinnell [Peugeot 205].

In the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship, reigning overall champion Alex Fletcher leads the overall order despite his perfect run being blemished in round three at Pembrey, with his Production-specification Honda Civic. Irishman Kieran Curran (Vauxhall Corsa) leads the Super Modified standings by a single-point from David Bell (BMW Mini), the class featuring 11-cars this weekend including Junior graduate Tighe Wratten (Ford Fiesta) making his Super Modified debut, while Lydden Hill local Wesley Wickens is command in the single-make BMW Mini series. Multiple-category rallycross champion Tony Lynch leads the Classic category after six rounds for that series, while Elliott Fewster moved into the lead of the BTRDA Junior standings with double victory last time out at Pembrey, in July.

The event also welcomes a new class to UK circuits, as seven Irish youngsters will also make the trip to Lydden Hill to take part in the Irish Junior Mini Rallycross Trophy, led by reining Irish Junior Champion Logan Hoey (BMW Mini).
