French and Swayland complete Retro title defences
Inseparable throughout the Super Retro Rallycross Championship in 2025, it was once again Charlie French (Ford Escort) and Alan Crockett (Opel Kadett) who battled at the head of the Super Retro division through the weekend at Lydden Hill, French ultimately prevailing to defend his category crown.
There was again nothing to choose between the pair in Saturday night’s final, Crockett throwing everything at trying to overtake race-leader French, even getting alongside with a brave move around the outside at Paddock Bend in the closing stages, but unable to find a way through, as French extended his advantage in the points. Four-time British Rallycross Champion Pat Doran (Ford Escort) completed the penultimate round in third, ahead of a returning Nigel Davey (Triumph TR7 V8), Allan Tapscott (Ford Escort) and Daryl Ambrose (Peugeot 205).
On Sunday, it was Crockett who led from the front, French flanking the leader throughout knowing second would be enough to secure the title. Doran again finished third, but was penalised post-race for contact with Stuart Emery (Volvo 242), promoting Davey to the podium, ahead of Vincent Bristow (BMW 318i), Andy Grant (Ford Escort) and David Ewin (Ford Fiesta).
In the Retro Rallycross division for up to 1600cc machines, Dan Swayland (Ford Escort) claimed a double-win to complete his title defence in style, his last weekend in the class before graduating to the Super Retro category for 2026. Ian Biagi (Mini Clubman) and Joe Luke-Eastwood (Rover Metro) completed the podium on both days at the Lydden season-finale, Luke-Eastwood enjoying a strong comeback following a huge incident at the same circuit during the 2WD Superprix in September.
