Macpherson claims Junior RX crown at Lydden finale
Having never finished lower than second through the Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship season leading up to the show-down at Lydden Hill, Teddie Macpherson entered the Lydden Hill weekend with the points lead and sealed the deal on Sunday afternoon to join a growing list of young stars to have claimed the crown.
Macpherson’s position was made stronger by penultimate round victory on Saturday evening under floodlights, racing in the single-make Suzuki Swift series. While Macpherson took maximum points, a close battle between him and title-rival Cayden Harris on the opening lap of the final had cost Harris time, the latter climbing back to finish second, while Tommy Brown completed the podium. William Hands and Harrison Folley completed the top five.
On the final day of an intense year on Sunday, Macpherson knew what he needed to do, and while it was Harris who started on pole, Tommy Brown made the best start from the front row to lead throughout and claim a maiden win, while Macpherson shadowed Harris throughout the final to finish third, enough to secure the crown.
Contact in the run to the first corner put Folley out, while Hands finished fourth.
