FIA Extreme H clash forces O’Donovan to miss Mondello Park, blowing 5 Nations BRX title-fight wide open
Championship leader Patrick O’Donovan will be forced to miss the penultimate weekend of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy at Mondello Park next week (October 4-5).
Three-time 5 Nations BRX title-winner and 2024 FIA European Rallycross Champion O’Donovan currently leads the Supercar standings by 17 points, but will be forced to miss the Mondello double-header due to commitments racing in the FIA Extreme H World Cup in Saudi Arabia.
O’Donovan previously worked as ‘championship driver’ for the Extreme E series, and made his race debut at the UK round in Scotland for the Legacy Motor Club team in 2024, before the series went on pause.
The 21-year-old has signed to race for Austrian team STARD in the maiden FIA Extreme H World Cup alongside American driver Amanada Sorensen and as such will miss the Mondello weekend.
2021 title-winner Derek Tohill is the only driver other than O’Donovan to have won rounds of 5 Nations BRX this year, having taken a brace of wins at Mondello Park in May, and is O’Donovan’s closest rival in the points table.
