Lydden Fireworks finale to wrap up 2026 5 Nations BRX season in style

6th November 2026

After a season-long campaign with events in England, Ireland, Holland, France and Wales, the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy returns to where it all began on Easter Weekend, for the finale double-header at Lydden Hill this weekend [November 7-8].

The November Fireworks event has become an annual part of the 5 Nations BRX calendar and this weekend a stacked field of competitors will provide action throughout, but especially as racing heads into darkness on Saturday evening for the floodlight finals ahead of the fireworks display.

There will be fireworks aplenty on track too, none more so than in the headline Supercar division. Reigning and two-time British Rallycross Champion Derek Tohill enters the final weekend of an intense season for the Irish driver with one hand on the trophy and coveted GB1 plate. Having contested full French and British Championship campaigns, Tohill will be hoping to round off his campaign in style with a third crown.

But, a range of drivers will be keen for Tohill not to have things all his own way, none more so than Julian Godfrey (Citroen DS3), Tristan Ovenden (Volkswagen Polo) and John McCluskey (Honda Civic), the trio embroiled in a battle for second and third in the overall standings. Joining the grid this weekend, Ovenden Motorsport will run a Citroen DS3 for the returning Mike Sellar, while the Murray Motorsport squad that runs McCluskey’s campaign will field a second Civic for former BTCC racer Eoin Murray, who starred on his Supercar debut in the French round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship this year.

Preparation expert Sam Clennell claimed a debut Supercar podium here at Lydden under floodlights 12 months ago and returns with the same Team RX Racing Proton Iriz for this weekend’s event, while Dutchman Tom Van Den Heuvel makes a second Supercar appearance at Lydden Hill, this time with a Volkswagen Scirocco. Also joining the Supercar field are Swift Sport Champion Philip Seath with a Mitsubishi Evo 6, Tomas Ramanauskas in a Mitsubishi Evo 4 and Junior racer Phoebe Cake, who will debut a Supercar Lites in the series.

A brand-new class for this weekend, that will be adopted by 5 Nations BRX from 2027, is the Open2WD division. While not new in concept, rallycross having a rich history of open classes for two-wheel-drive machines, the re-imagined category has attracted a huge entry and a wide range of machinery from drivers in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. Former three-time British Champion Patrick O’Donovan will make his debut in the class driving a Mercedes SLK V8, while European Championship event-winner Liam Doran will make his second career start in a BMW E30 M3. 2WD regular front runners like Peter McGarry, who won his first RallyX round with his 600 bhp rear-wheel-drive Volkswagen Polo recently, Jason and Darren Bleasdale in a pair of Vauxhall VX220s, Belgian Steve Volders (BMW M3) and UK-based Polish driver Slawomir Woloch (BMW M3) will all be in the victory hunt, but plenty of surprises could be sprung in this division.

Four-time British Rallycross Champion Pat Doran (Ford Escort MK2) leads the standings into the final rounds of the highly-competitive Super Retro Rallycross Championship, while Dan Swayland (Ford Escort MKI BDT) and Stuart Emery (Volvo 242) remain in contention. Reigning double champion Charlie French (Ford Escort MKII) returns to the fold as a fly in the championship challengers ointment, among a 17-strong line up of eclectic machines celebrating the rich history of the discipline. In the Retro Rallycross division for up to 1650cc cars, Jon Wood (Ford Escort) has already won the title, but any of the nine drivers on the grid could feature on the podium.

The combined Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship and RX150 Championship field for single-seater machines delivers some of the fastest racing outside of the Supercar class, and while Bradley Turner (LifeLive TN11) has already secured the crown, title-challenger Will Ovenden (Ligier XC09) is desperate for a strong result at his home circuit and Liam Doran (LifeLive TN11) will also compete. David Kane (Speedcar Wonder R) also returns for the 2026 season-finale in a strong entry.

Phoebe Cake, Jaxon Blewett, champion Ethan Hooker and George Edenborough have all been winners in the Motorsport UK Cross Car Junior Championship category and will be out to finish their seasons on a high, while newly-crowned Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Champion William Hands switches codes for the final weekend of the year.

In the single-make Swift Sport Rallycross Championship, Danny Bean is on a rich run of unbeaten form having joined the series at Lydden in July, while his former Swift racing father Jonathan returns to the fold this weekend 13 years away. Outgoing champion Matt Cake also returns, while Philip Seath will be looking to end his title-winning season in style. Rob Kelly and Shane Harvey meanwhile make their debuts in division as part of the eight-car field.
