Phoebe Cake set for Supercar debut at Lydden fireworks finale
Teenager Phoebe Cake will make her top-flight debut in the final rounds of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy at Lydden Hill next month [November 7-8].
16-year-old Cake will race a Supercar Lites machine in the headline Supercar category as she takes the next step on the ladder of her career.
Younger sister to Swift Sport Rallycross Champion Matt Cake – who also made his Supercar debut earlier this year at Lydden Hill in a Citroen DS3 – and daughter of former rallycross champion Chris Cake, Phoebe began her rallycross career in the single-make Motorsport UK Junior Rallycross Championship, before graduating to the single-make Supercar Lites division of the RallyX series in Europe, in 2025.
Driving with experienced Swedish squad Team Faren, Cake competed in Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany in her learning year in the series, but was unable to return this season due to a number of mitigating factors.
Instead, she reverted back to Junior competition at the start of the campaign, winning the opening round of the inaugural Motorsport UK Cross Car Junior Championship at Blyton Park in a LifeLive TN11, while her family team put a deal in place to acquire their own Supercar Lites car.
While also working on broadening her skills by competing in other disciplines through the year, Cake will make her top-flight British Championship debut at the annual Lydden Hill Fireworks event, and will prepare for her maiden outing by competing in a Rally Sprint at Lydden Hill this weekend, and with a further test.
Based on a spaceframe chassis with composite bodywork, the Supercar Lites, built by Swedish firm OlsbergsMSE is a mid-engine four-wheel-drive rallycross car with a sequential gearbox and 2.4-litre engine that produces 310bhp, around half of the output of a conventional Supercar.
“I’m very excited to be able to drive in Supercar at the final rounds of the season as we start to prepare for the future,” said Cake. “Next season we plan to compete in RallyX, and hopefully some more 5 Nations BRX rounds too, so this will be a great help with that preparation and its always special to race at my home track. We have put in huge effort as a family, with our close friends too especially Kirk Twyman, into getting this car and sorting it out to be race ready. Thanks to the Eriksson family and to Mountune for their help. We are competing to learn and enjoy at the fireworks event and I’m excited to get into the car.”
Tickets for the fireworks finale, which features the Saturday finals under the floodlight cover of darkness before the firework display, can be found here.
