Revised format for British Rallycross Grand Prix

11th October 2017

The Procters Coaches MSA British Rallycross Grand Prix will feature a revised format for the 2017 edition held at Croft Circuit next week, as part of what is set to be an action packed Sunday of racing in which the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Champion will also be crowned (October 22).

A maximum of 40 cars will battle for the chance to become the British Rallycross Grand Prix winner. Each driver will take part in two qualifiers, with the top 32 moving into four quarter-finals. The top four drivers in each of the quarter-finals will progress to two semi-finals, where the top four from each will qualify for the Grand Prix.

“The format of the Grand Prix has been conceived to provide as equal a chance for all starters as possible. The knock-out nature of quarter-finals and semi-finals is also easily understood and exciting for spectators,” said Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship Manager, Tim Whittington. “The Grand Prix needs to be different from other events at the same time as maintaining the tradition of mixed-class racing.”

Before the Grand Prix action gets underway, the MSA Supercar and MSA Supernational category finals for round nine of British RX will take place, qualifying races and finals for British RX support categories and the MSA Junior Rallycross Championship having taken place on Saturday (October 21). By moving the Supercar and Supernational class finals to Sunday morning, spectators can expect a fantastic day of none-stop action.

Entry lists for the final round of the British RX and the Rallycross Grand Prix will be released soon.
